The 2018 Cross Country team met many of its goals this season. The boys’ team advanced from sectional as a team by placing in the top five – a feat that hadn’t been done in five previous seasons and only the third time in the past 10 seasons. The team then finished in eighth place at regional. Senior Thomas Gaines qualified individually to the semi-state. Gaines is one of four graduating seniors, including Tyler Upton, Bradon Dykes, and Ross Reyes.

The girls’ team added three new runners this season but fell short of its goal of fielding a complete team. Newcomers freshmen Amanda Upton and Justus Bowman and junior Claire Reyes all improved their times over the season. Junior Natalie Boesing had a strong season, capped by her third-consecutive trip to the semi-state round,  an accomplishment that hadn’t been done in more than 20 years for a Providence girls’ runner.

The outlook for next season looks very promising with both teams, with four returning runners for the girls and five for the boys, including junior Alex Perkinson, sophomores Josh Lynch and Josh Russell, and freshmen Garrett Huber and Will Harper.
