SISTER PETRA (PHS 1955-59) celebrating 70th Anniversary on Feb. 1.


Sister Petra Daschbach SP, English and Latin teacher at Providence from 1955-59 is celebrating her 70th Anniversary as a Sister of Providence. 


She is a native of Pittsburgh and currently ministers in parish and school services at St. Ann School and Parish in Washington, D.C.

Sister Petra entered the Congregation Feb. 1, 1939, from St. Philip Parish in Pittsburgh. She professed perpetual vows Jan. 23, 1948, and graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in Latin.  She received a master’s degree in Latin from DePaul University.

Indiana ministries include: Indianapolis - teacher, St. Philip Neri School (1942); St. John Academy (1948-1950), Evansville - teacher, Reitz Memorial High School (1942-1944), Vincennes - teacher, St. Rose High School (1944-1945), Fort Wayne - teacher, Central Catholic High School (1950-1951), Terre Haute - teacher, Schulte High School (1953-1955), Clarksville - teacher, Our Lady of Providence High School (1955-1959). She also ministered in Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
