JAMES ALEXANDER "ALEX" KENNEY - 2003.
Alex has just begun a 12 month tour of duty in Iraq as of June 23, 2009

Alex graduated from Xavier University in May, 2007 with a BS in Business.  He entered the Army in June, 2007.  After Basic Training he went directly into Officer Training School and was commissioned in January, 2008, and is currently a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

His parents report that Alex is a very patriotic young man with a "great respect for those who served in our country's military to give us the freedom we all enjoy today.  Alex had a passion to serve in the military and he has carried that passion into reality."

Ameila Goffinet at Providence received the following message from Alex on Feb. 25, 2010 - "Yes, I'm still deployed.  I've been on a base near the city of Basra for the past few months.  I've also spent some time on bases near Nasiriyah and Baghdad, as well as a small outpost near the Iranian border.  I've been in Iraq for about nine months, and my unit is scheduled to return home in mid to late May.

Overall, my platoon and I are doing very well.  We get a lot of support from home, and morale is especially high because we now have less than 100 days left in our deployment.  We've started counting down the days."

BLAKE ANDREW NEWELL - 2002

Blake attended and graduated from Sniper School in Arkansas and from there was sent on his 3rd deployment – this time to Afghanistan.  He left the beginning of June, 2009 for a 12 month tour.

Blake’s mother reports: “I have heard from him and he is doing fine – says it is very different from Iraq – mountains vs. sand!!!  Apparently the mountains are not “vehicle friendly” so he has been going through a lot of boots, but he is happy to be out there and doing what he is trained to do.

Blake was injured during his first tour of duty in the Middle East.  He and two others encountered an IED.  Blake recovered State-side before his current deployment to Afghanistan in June, 2009
