Mary was the widow of commercial artist James Russell who designed the school's "Mary" logo about 40 years ago. She was a sister to Sister Edith Tighe, the Sister of Providence who was most instrumental in promoting the canonization of Mother Theodore Guerin.

Grandmother of Fr. Eric Augenstein, pastor of OLPH. She died Wednesday morning at the age of 90 at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, Indiana, after a lengthy illness. The funeral Mass will celebrated on Monday, December 7, at the St. Paul Hermitage Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, and six siblings, and is survived by two daughters and their families.

She served at nearly a dozen schools in Louisville and Indiana. She taught at St. Mary School in Madison, St. George, St. Raphael, St. Boniface and Our Lady Help of Christians schools, Ursuline Academy and Holy Cross and Providence High Schools. She was at Angela Merici High School for 17 years. In addition, she taught at schools in South Carolina, Maryland and Nebraska. Sr. Nick taught Spanish for many years at Providence. Current teacher Betty Sonner writes: "In early in January, someone ran a stop and hit her on the driver’s side. She had a broken neck and head injuries. After a few days in the hospital, she was transferred to a rehab for therapy. Last week, she was taken back to the hospital. Her family was with her when she passed away on Friday at 9:00 a.m. The funeral is tomorrow in Orange, California. She was a good teacher, a good friend, and a good person."
